WALK ZONES

Families attending Hillcrest Elementary, North Bend Middle School, and North Bend High School may live within a designated walk zone. A walk zone is an area surrounding a school where students are expected to walk or bike to school or walk to a designated bus stop.

Why do we have walk zones?
  • Provide faster, more reliable transportation for students who live farther from school.
  • Reduce traffic congestion around our schools.
  • Preserve bus capacity and reduce unnecessary stops.
  • Align transportation services with Oregon requirements and State School Fund transportation reimbursement guidelines.

Safety is a priority. Walk zones have been reviewed in accordance with Oregon transportation safety requirements to ensure students have accessible routes without recognized traffic hazards.

Hillcrest's walk zone applies only to Hillcrest students. The NBMS/NBHS walk zone applies only to students attending those schools.

GROUP BUS STOPS

Some routes will use group bus stops, where students from the same neighborhood gather at one designated location rather than the bus stopping near each individual home.

Why group stops?
Fewer stops mean shorter routes and less time students spend on the bus.

What does this mean for my family?
This means your child will spend less time on a bus. Some students may need to walk a short distance to their assigned stop. A guardian must be present at the bus stop for kindergarten students to be released from the bus.

BUS ROUTES & SCHEDULES

First Student will share finalized bus stops, routes, and schedules during the week of August 31.

Thank you for partnering with us as we work to provide safe and efficient transportation for North Bend students.
